David Hamilton ARB

An architect and masterplanner with over twenty years’ experience, David is Director of Projects with special responsibility for Competitions and Operations at MRC.

David has taken the lead on devising the brief and advising the client for many of MRC’s design competitions, with recent projects ranging from MK:U, University College Dublin and Gallaudet University to Homerton College, Cambridge, the Science Island in Kaunas, the Museum of London, and the Culture and Education Quarter at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

David takes a keen interest in emerging practices and has developed an extensive database of designers and creative contacts which he continues to grow. He has developed an expertise in convening and running technical panels that provide support and advice to competition juries.

David has written reports and appraisals for numerous clients; recent feasibility studies include those for the British Library at Boston Spa and Exeter College, Oxford.

David has been a guest critic for design studios at The Bartlett and the London School of Economics. He has also written and lectured on competitions.

Prior to joining MRC, David gained valuable experience working for AMAAlexi Marmot Associates as a consultant on the new National Library of Greece (designed by Renzo Piano). Previously, he ran his own consultancy and worked for Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates as a senior architect and masterplanner.

David has Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees in Architecture from the University of Manchester and University College London, and a Master’s degree in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics.
